The Scripture (shastra), named Shrimad Bhagwad Gita which is available today, if studied from beginning to end leads us to the only conclusion that one of its aims is to acquaint man with the difference between body and soul, i.e.
the field (Kshetra) and the actor in the field (kshetragya), as also with the identity of the Supreme Soul, making him thereby soul-conscious, doubt-free, detached and God-conscious.
Most of the 700 Shlokas, which the present-day Gita consists of, besides imparting to man knowledge of the soul and the Supreme Soul,
stabilize him in God-consciousness, acquaint him with the mysterious laws of actions and vicious action and tell him the difference between worldly duties and renunciation between the divine and the demoniac qualities and how to attain victory over vices like sex-lust, anger, etc., and, lastly, how to try to return to Brahmloka – the Soul World, soul’s original home.
- In the 2ndChapter of Gita, the difference between body & soul is explained
- In the 13thChapter of Gita, the knowledge about Kshetra and Kshetragy is given. Bhagwan explained clearly that the knowledge about Kshetra and Kshetragya is the true knowledge. (Gita ch. 13, ver.2)
- In the Gita, there are 700 Shlokas, The Shlokas related to warfare are not more than 15-20 and whatever they are, more that ¾ of those Shlokas are related clearly for fighting against mental Vices.More over there are about 60-70 Shlokas are regarding soul, mind & intellect; 150 Shlokas about Supreme soul; 100 about Yoga: 60-70 Shlokas about action (karma), fruit of action (karma),definition of good and bad actions; 30-35 Shlokas about renunciation and Sanyas; 30-35 about Yagya or sacrifice and Tap; 30-32 relate to knowledge; 20-25 about divine and satanic qualities, 20-25 about vices like sex-lust, anger and 15-20 Shlokas about mental stage, status, Mukti and hightest status, in this way, some Shoklas are about religion, self-religion, other-religion, happiness and sorrow, age of yuga etc. and some other Shlokas are related for sharing this knowledge to others.
- After hearing the Gita Knowledge, Arjuna said: “My attachment with worldly relations has gone, my doubts and confusion is removed. Now I have become soul-conscious and have set up in Godly remembrance. “Gita Ch. 18, Ver. 73
In other words, the subject matter of Gita is – Knowledge, yoga, inculcation of Divine Virtues or purity and the service of others through Godly Knowledge. In some verses of the Gita, the object of Knowledge has been clearly stated. For instance, in one of them, it is said:
“Oh Arjuna, become a Yogi, for, a Yogi is pre-eminent of all. Further, it has been explained in the Gita what makes one to be a Yogi and what are the Yogi’s characteristics.
A Yogi, it says, is free of malice and ill-will or, in other words, he is friendly to everyone. He is kindly, detached, modest, forgiving and remains unperturbed in all circumstances, besides being happy and contented, he neither inflicts pain on others nor does he receive it. He is pure, both inside and outside, or in other words, he is ‘pure’ in thought, word and deed.
If the ‘True Essence of Bhagwad Gita’ is read in this perspective, everyone will become Arjuna & can win over his/her own vices.

Greatly appreciated the explanation about what the Object of Knowledge means when mentioned in the Bhagavad Gita. Some links provided when searching does explain it however I was looking for a simple clear answer.
